Mammography (Volumetric Breast Density)

Volumetric Breast Density

Breast density is a strong indicator for breast cancer risk.

Volumetric breast density (VBD) measurement has been clinically applied in the estimation of breast cancer risk and radiation dose monitoring.

Objectives
To investigate:
i)  The robustness of a VBD measurement system (Volpara 1.5) to errors in imaging physics parameters
ii) The relationship between VBD and BMI, body fat mass, age and ethnicity.

Imaging physics parameters which affect the robustness of VBD measurement:

Measurement and Data Collection
i)  Body composition
ii) Questionnaire (patient information

Statistical Analysis of Data (n ≈ 2000)

Findings:

i)  Breast density is not significantly related to BMI and body fat.
ii) Breast density is different for Malay, Chinese and Indian in Malaysia.
